I had been working 50-60 hours in Banking for a few years when HR introduced workplace yoga and so began my love affair. Like anything new, it was not easy. I found downward dogs "that would one day feel like a rest pose(?!)" tough and didn't understand triangle pose aka "pretend you're in-between two walls". My competitive nature took over which was totally the wrong attitude but it meant I came back week after week. Over time, I began to really enjoy my time in downward dog and could swing my foot from downward dog to warrior 1 feet without "a helping hand". I started to soften into asanas and really let go, feeling it rather than observing others.
I wanted to learn more and in 2014 enrolled onto a yoga teaching training in London - it was not my intention to teach, I just really wanted to grow my own practice and immerse myself around other yogis. Upon graduation, I LOVED it and I knew I wanted, no, needed to teach others to share how wonderful yoga felt; both physically and mentally.
I began freelancing across studios in Central London, teaching workplace yoga in Investment Banks and launched my own yoga sessions incorporating a strong vinyasa practice that is creative, mindful and intentional.
In 2018, I undertook further training in Prenatal Yoga and offered both group and private sessions. I was in awe of mums-to-be and how their bodies changed and wanted to ensure we could keep existing yoga clients flowing whilst introducing a slower form to new clients which aided their pregnancy and birth.
At the start of 2020, pre Covid, I became certified in Reformer Pilates and also learned I was pregnant with twins. As the UK moved into lockdown, I moved sessions online which created a virtual community for my yogis and kept me active throughout my pregnancy which my postpartum recovery thanked me for. Following the birth of my twins; Ava and Aari, my yoga practice was changed forever and more than ever I understood the term multitasking.
In 2022, our family moved across the pond from London to NYC and I left the corporate world to teach full time and explore the city with my twins. Two years later, we returned back to London with another baby on the way.
The word 'community' is even more meaningful when you've not only had children but also uprooted your life to move somewhere new and has become a real desire to create where I can, both for myself and those that I teach.
Despite all the changes, stepping onto my mat always brings me home regardless of where we are and how much time there is to flow.
So, to all the beginners, corporate employees, corporate parents, tired parents, mums-to-be and new mums... I understand you. I have been you and I am you. I would love to flow together and help you with your goals, whether that be to try yoga, build strength or simply have a moment to breathe.
